Discussion Time!!! – Obsessed With Reading Challenges?

Reading Challenges: #Let'sDiscuss2016

I think I am obsessed with reading challenges. I never realized how much until I started book blogging. I have always been a chart and list person. I have a notebook of books I want, categories by authors, a small notebook of the books I’ve read throughout the year (currently it goes back to 2011, I believe), and a typed copy of the list (which is late printed at the end of the year). Ok, so that’s nothing to do with challenges, and more so do with with lists and charts. Should I change the subject line to obsessed lists and charts?

Nah…I’m still discussing reading challenges.

It seems like every day I stumble upon a new reading challenge that I want to join, but I do know myself and I know I’m probably spreading myself thin with the three I am participating in. (*See Blogging & Reading Challenges tab or sidebar.*) They just all seem so interesting. I resist joining other ones in hopes that they will be started again next year. I just know I can’t do them.

Here are a couple I hope will be around next year.

Story Sprites hosted at Great Imaginations.

My TBR List Meme hosted by Michelle at Because Reading.

Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge

Finishing the Series hosted Bea’s Book Nook

The Rory Gilmore Book Challenge hosted at Blogs of a Bookaholic

Full House Reading Challenge hosted at Book Date

Those are just a few. There are more that I have come across and thought they were interesting and wanted to participate.

Then again, maybe they won’t and I can progress future on my TBR pile that just keep accumulating. Ah who am I kidding, I won’t ever completely finish my TBR pile…just like the rest of you! 🙂

What about you? Are you an avid reading challenge participant or even blogging challenges?

  1. I think I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum since I actively *avoid* reading challenges! I am a 100% mood reader and I hate feeling like I’m locked in to reading a certain book or even a certain genre. I very rarely know what I’m going to be reading next and I love the total freedom of picking up exactly what I want at any given moment – without thought to keeping up with a challenge, checking certain blocks, etc. That being said, I did sign up for my first (and probably only) reading challenge this year – the #ShelfLove challenge. Which basically just means I try to read books I already own instead of buying new ones. So again, it’s still wide open and not reading certain things. I do love that the challenges seem to get people reading a lot more so that’s always a good thing! 🙂

    1. I am learning though that I don’t get much reading from my TBR pile LOL, so even though I am enjoying the reads and my progress I get bummed a bit.

  2. I know – it’s SO tempting to just jump into ALL the challenges! But I’m NOT a list person, and I’m horrible at sticking with things, so I’m making sure to only stick to a few. At the beginning of the year, though, I created a HUGE list with tons of challenges as a resource for people. I’ll probably do that again next year – you can find it HERE!

    1. Awesome! I hope that you do b/c that will be very useful for me. I hope that I am able to do at least one (in addition to the Goodreads challenge) next year.

  3. I love the IDEA of challenges, but don’t do so well with the follow through. I read a ton, so you’d think it would be easy enough to incorporate more deliberate choices, but it’s just not me. And reading is one area where I’m not going to try to “improve” myself or change my natural inclinations. That being said, I had a ton of fun participating in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon last weekend, and I do adore tracking my reading on Goodreads and with a more detailed spreadsheet I developed for myself this year.

    1. I can see what you’re saying. As much as I am enjoying reading these books for various challanges and like the idea of participating next year…I am not sure if I actually will b/c I feel like I can’t read at my own pace.
